At the time, redefining writing as a process (writing as a verb rather than a noun) seemed to be a magic bullet. And it did spark a change in emphasis. But process became nominalized in the classroom as it was re-formed to suit a curriculum and a course pattern. Process was reduced to recipe. An observation on how people composed became a curricular prescription. Doomed from the start.
